This photo is part of a collection of prints that I'm selling to raise money for a book project on Evolution. Please take a look at ClarkPhotoSales.com to see the offering.
The Jacobin pigeon is one of many different #FancyPigeon breeds that Darwin raised. Darwin became interested in #pigeonry because he saw it as a way to illustrate how #evolution can naturally select for certain traits; while pigeon breeding does so at the hands of breeders, #evolution naturally selects for certain traits based on how adaptively fit a set of individuals is to their contingent environment.
Remarkably, all #FancyPigeons are actually descendants of the Common Rock Pigeon you see in every city. Pigeonry isn't adaptive, it simply uses a mechanism found naturally in nature to accentuate aesthetic rather than adaptive qualities in a species.
I'll be using the proceeds from this sale to fund my book on evolution, a large-scale project of mine. Visit the link in my bio to browse the prints I have for sale!
