This morning before sunrise we came across a group of monks gathering around a cross roads, waiting for their ride to New Bagan where the villagers fill their begging bowls with rice and vegetables - a big bowl but the only food they will eat all day. These kids built a fire to pass the time, and we watched the scene unfold. Buddhism dates back over two thousand years ago here in Burma, and is practiced by almost 90% of the population. Theravada Buddhism, the most common form of the tradition, was actually implanted right here in Bagan by the Bamar king Anawrahta, and since the 11th century there was a flush of temple construction in honor of this religious practice and the Buddha. @campcollective @taylorfreesolo @fstopgear @sandisk @ザ・ノースフェイス
