Today on November 14, we celebrate the Hall of Famer who wore retired number 14, Ken Boyer. An outstanding third baseman and consistent hitter, he was named team Captain in 1959 and held the post until his 1965 trade. When he left, he was one of only five players to collect 1,000 runs batted in while wearing a Cardinals uniform and was second to Stan Musial in career home runs. The 1964 NL MVP was an 11-time All-Star and earned five Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. His grand slam in Game 4 of the 1964 World Series was the difference in a 4-3 St. Louis win. Remains the only Redbird to hit for the cycle twice. #CardsArchives
