In 1929, #Harrods’ General Manager Richard Burbidge started an annual Handwriting Competition for schools, as he strongly believed that poor handwriting was damaging the employment prospects of otherwise able students. The picture (bottom left) shows 14-year-old Dennis Francis receiving the shield from Richard Burbridge on behalf of his school in 1932 (his certificate can be seen in the top right corner of this picture). Years later, Dennis returned to Harrods to be reunited with the shield that he received 81 years ago (top left, bottom right).
