On August 23rd, 1998 we lost our friend Phil Shao. For those of you that don't know, Phil was working for us at the time and Jake Phelps was actually grooming him to be the next editor of the mag.
Our friend Mark Whiteley just wrote a beautiful piece about Phil for chromeballincident.blogspot.com and if you have the time we think you should read it.
The photo above was shot by Lance Dawes and to this day is one of the greatest skate images of all time. It's one of those shots that'll make chills run down your spine.
We love you Phil and we miss you like crazy. It hasn't been the same since you left...
