Skunk Fest is an annual Ohio gathering, the labor-of-love brainchild of Deborah Cipriani who lives with and cares for more than 50 skunks at her home. For the past 12 years it’s been a community event that connects skunk owners with each other and a curious public.
I've always been fascinated by the things that connect us, like how really different people might choose the same kind of car, down to the color and model. Have you ever seen someone wearing the same shirt or tie or shoes ? I was fascinated to see who owned skunks. What did they share, if anything, besides an affinity for an animal that is not often admired ? We built a temporary photo studio in a tent used for weddings and invited people in with their skunks.
This is Deborah with her 3 year-old skunk Ozzie. She says she wouldn’t be without a pet skunk but knows they aren’t for everyone. She’s a customer service representative but also runs Skunk Haven, a shelter and online resource.
