The explosive growth and crime has spread to small Montana border towns like Bainville, causing a severe housing shortage. Although only a small fraction of Bakken wells are located in Montana, where oil production peaked in 2006, oil industry development and in influx of workers has maxed out town sewers, destroyed roads, and introduced drugs and violent crime unheard of by a generation or locals farmers and ranchers.
