Damn, Flash Gordon is beautiful. When I was a kid this was one of my favorite movies. Rewatching it now I see how much it cemented in me a love of production design, color in cinema, and the straight up space opera - not to mention the wonderful fusion of music and picture in film. The director, Mike Hodges (who wrote the original, classic Get Carter and went on to direct Croupier of all things), did an amazing job. This movie really makes me happy.
