"A bird in the hand is worth…?” — for me, one of the best memories of my life: three weeks; 2600 miles of driving and camping across the stunning landscapes of Namibia. Our final campsite in the quiver tree forest held a number of trees with massive nest complexes built by sociable weavers (Philetairus socius). These birds collectively build the largest nests of any bird species. Each community nest can contain as many as 100 nesting pairs.
