Massive citadels made of rammed earth, in circle, oval, square or rectangle shapes, can be as high as 4 stories and house a hundred families, all of the same clan. Built for protection against hostile neighbors, they were once mistaken for China's missile silos back in the 1950's. Over 3000 are still inhabited, some tulou over 600 years old, 50 designated as #WorldHeritage sites. #Fujian #china #hakka #tulou @thephotosociety
