When I took this photo on March 27, 2014 Lake Powell was at 39 percent capacity and 125 feet below full pool, one of the lowest levels ever recorded. Because of the large area of the lake in a desert environment, Lake Powell loses an average if 860,000 acre feet of water to evaporation annually.
