Lupita Nyong'o. In her first scene of the movie, I was instantly drawn to her beauty!! So much so, that it made it hard for me to focus on her part in the scene/story. I was really in awe. I had to share. I leaned over and gawked to my friend, "she's SO PRETTY to me...look at her big eyes, her full lips, those cheekbones!" As the movie went on, I realized there was no scar, no unfortunate event, and no amount of angst in her expressions that could take away from her beauty. As a matter of fact, I think they only amplified it. This is the way I think of all my black women around the world. The struggles that were meant to break us only made us more beautiful. Our resilience... #BLACKISBEAUTIFUL #BLACKHISTORYMONTH & #WCW at the same damn time.
