This is Jen and her brand new baby that was born 30 minutes after we arrived at the birthing center. She's eating an energy bar that was donated to the relief effort. Most people went without food for the first week after the hurricane and many moms and their babies were put at risk because of malnutrition. There is still very little fresh food here because so many trees and crops were damaged and what little fresh food there is often gets delayed by flooded or blocked roads and spoils on trucks, so high calorie Energy bars and vitamin supplements have become life savers for pregnant women and their unborn babies. This is her first baby, a girl Jen and her husband are still pondering her name:)
