When the going gets hot, wildlife heads to the waterhole. On this date a few years ago I staked out a waterhole in Southern Arizona to take pictures of desert wildlife. With daytime temperatures over 110°F, everything within many miles would come to drink under the cover of darkness. I set up an infrared beam camera trigger across the water line and turned this water hole into an automated wildlife photo booth. The series that will follow, one per day for seven days, will reveal what showed up. Pictures by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz with help from Nathan Williamson as seen in the book Desert Air @ナショナルジオグラフィック
