This is an area in which oil companies, loggers, Waorani, tribes in voluntary isolation, and environmentalist are all working/living together in a relatively small area. Recently, as well as in the past, this situation has become violent. The pollution and deforestation, a result of the search for oil and the roads the companies make, are destroying one of the most bio-diverse places in the world as well as the culture of the people of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
