(photo @chamiltonjames ) The otter's arsenal. This array of highly sensitive whiskers are used by otters to detect tiny fish movements underwater. I've spent many hours watching otters hunting fish at night and it's incredible to watch the speed an otter can react to the swipe of a fishes tail, sometimes from several feet away. I took this photo while on assignment for National Geographic shooting otters for the current feb issue. This otter was a wild female who lived in the river outside my house. I took this photo using a specially designed remote system wired back to my kitchen.
