It was immediately clear I’d bitten off more than I could tackle. After some intense emotions and feeling like perhaps we should just go home, @arjandekock reminded me that we were here to see a new place, as a family, and spend time together. Simple, yet a luxury, when so many families are being torn apart. I dropped one objective, choosing the one that felt more in my wheel house. I focused on the time with my family - the opportunity to live so intimately in a small space with the people I love most. I observed a transformation in Larkin, from an unhappy baby who screamed a lot to a content toddler with loads of personality. And on the last day, after extending our trip for one last attempt, I gave up. I felt content with our trip, and ready to go home. But I gave one last burn, and surprised myself with a fire, a fire that I hadn’t felt all month. I’m happy to have been able to climb on, and ultimately complete, a beautiful line in one of the more beautiful climbing settings I’ve experienced.
