One of my distant exes used to say ‘how you show up anywhere is how you show up everywhere.’ And in the midst of so much pain in the World I’ve been thinking a lot about this. If we are hurt we will hurt. And often times the more powerful people become the wider they can project their own pain out and into the World and on to others. We owe it to the each other to show up for ourselves first, put on our own life jackets and wade through the sludge of our own pain, hurt, shame and past trauma. So that we might each become brave enough to stop reenacting pain on each other. But it’s complicated because it feels like there is so much to be fearful of right now. Saying the wrong thing. Saying anything. Saying nothing. Sometimes when I look at people I can see pain caught in their throats. I hope this weekend you get to cry with someone. And then I hope you get to laugh. And then I hope you get to help. I hope you feel deeply loved, if only for a moment.
