The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is the largest intact remnant of a vast forested wetland that once covered more than one million acres of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund has conserved nearly 47,000 acres of this environmentally important 110,000-acre refuge. Across the country, LWCF helps support our wildlife refuges, conserve our forests, waters and wildlife habitat, and provide access to recreation.
