Prior to their departure from the UK, several marine technology companies had provided them with scientific equipment for evaluation. Professor Icarus Allen from Plymouth Marine Laboratories joined the expedition to assist in assessing the scientific potential of Linden, the ship. They received a state-of-the-art CTD device from Valeport just before departure, a compact and sophisticated tool used to measure Conductivity, Temperature, Depth, and chlorophyll levels in the ocean. After a morning lecture on oceanography by Professor Icarus, they successfully tested the CTD device and obtained valuable data about ocean health.
