sabukaru Premieres: Alaskan Tapes - Of Woods and Seas

The Canadian director Andrew De Zen [@andrewdezen] outdoes himself with his new music video and short film “Of Woods and Seas”, his fourth collaboration with the ambient and electronic musician Alaskan Tapes [@alaskantapes]. Produced by our friends from NAKAMA [@nakamafilm] the film portrays fatherhood and its vulnerability:

Laying down a heart-aching story of a father realizing the fragility of the role of a father as he confronts his emotionally neglectful behavior towards his son, De Zen stuns with the intimate yet shameful vulnerability the father manifests. Shot in Tokyo, the viewer is graced by warm shots of tatami mats, desolating urban scapes, and humanizing sceneries of moss beds, each representing the stages of the epiphany.

A look into generational trauma, fatherhood, and guilt, Of Woods and Seas is a poignant short film about finding the courage to forgive oneself and be the change, unselfishly. It shows tear-jerking, almost palpable metaphors depicted by the grit that inevitably consumes our life as one paces into adulthood and pure, white light, washing the roughness away.
