Magnum Photosさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Magnum PhotosInstagram)「Magnum Gallery in London presents Ukuzilanda, Homegoing, a conversation between the works of South African photographers Ernest Cole, @mikhaelsubotzky and @lindokuhle.sobekwa, opening at @cromwellplace tomorrow, October 3, and showing until October 15 🇿🇦 The Xhosa word “ukuzilanda” describes the act of connecting to oneself, specifically to one’s past. In South Africa, where legacies of colonization, slavery, indentured labor and racial segregation intersect, notions of self, identity and home are often fraught with uncertainty. Cole, Subotzky and Sobekwa's experience of ukuzilanda manifests itself in distinct yet inseparable ways. Through an interrogation of the systems of work, and their twin burdens of migration and displacement, their work lays bare the systemic uprooting which continues to be at the core of South African life. In such a landscape, to find oneself – to find home – is an enduring project. 🔗 Tap the link in the @magnumphotos bio to reserve your free entry. All works on show are available to acquire. The Xhosa word “ukuzilanda” describes the act of connecting to oneself, specifically to one’s past.
