While the majority of the Steller's sea eagles have already returned north, a few white-tailed sea eagles still remain in Shiretoko. ❤️🦅 This survey is vital for counting and early detection of injuries or diseases among these magnificent birds. Park rangers conduct the surveys from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., drive along roads at 20 to 40 kilometers per hour, and use binoculars in order to keep their distance from the birds. They record information such as the species name, estimated age, and behavior. 📝🔍 Accumulating long-term distribution data helps understand environmental changes based on fluctuations in the number of migratory eagles and their age and sex demographics.
