寺内健さんのインスタグラム写真 - (寺内健Instagram)「皆様にご報告があります。　この度9月の日本選手権を最後に現役引退する事を決意致しました。昨年から痛めていた膝の状態が思わしくなく、今まで自分を支えていた自分を追い込む練習も出来ない事で高い水準で競技する事が難しく、この様な決断に至りました。　 1994年の日本選手権で初めて優勝して私の飛込人生は大きく変わりました。オリンピックというものを意識し始めたのはこの頃です。そんな大きな想いがある日本選手権を最後の大会に出来る事を誇らしく思います。　若かりし頃は辛い事が多いと思っていた現役生活も、後半は自分と向き合う事でその意義を感じながら充実した競技人生だったと今は思います。　現役選手として43歳まで挑戦を続けて来れたのは、最後まで全力のサポートして頂きましたミキハウスをはじめ、馬淵崇英コーチ、家族、ここまで私に携わって下さった方々、そして応援して下さいました皆様のおかげです。その全ての方に感謝の想いとこれまでの競技人生の締めくくりとして、最後は自分らしく全力で飛び切りたいと思いますので応援宜しくお願い致します。 I, Ken Terauchi, have decided to officially retire after the Japan Championship in September 2023. It’s been challenging to keep the performance and quality of the dives up to the level where I had hoped to be since injuring my knee last year. My diving career really began after winning the Japan Championship for the first time in 1994. It was that year that the thought of “the Olympics” even crossed my mind as a young athlete, and I’m truly grateful that I could get the chance to begin and end my career with the very same competition this September. There have been so many ups and downs, successes and stumbles throughout my life, and looking back on my diving career it seemed to be so much harder and challenging when I was younger. However, all that experience gave me great and meaningful moments every time, and made me grow as a person, and into the man I am today. I can’t express my appreciation more to my sponsors at Mikihouse, my coach Suei Mabuchi, my wonderful family, and everyone who supported me throughout my 43 year journey, and 32years as a competitive diver. I want to thank each and every one of you with all my heart! I’m excited for September for the chance to show everyone, one last time, what I can accomplish in my final competition.
