Akita Kanto Festival
About 10,000 lanterns light up the city.
The lanterns are placed on the forehead, waist, shoulders, and other parts of the body to pray for a good harvest. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset and is one of the three major festivals in the Tohoku region(North part of Japan), along with the Nebuta Festival in Aomori and the Tanabata Festival in Sendai.
The Kanto lantern is 12 meters long, weighs 50 kg, and 46 lanterns are hung from the pole. The lanterns are exquisitely balanced, and the contestants compete by shifting them to their palms, foreheads, shoulders, hips, and other parts of the body.

約1万個の提灯が街を照らす
「秋田竿燈まつり」

竿燈全体を稲穂に、連なる提灯を米俵に見立て、額・腰・肩などにのせ、豊作を祈る。重要無形民俗文化財に指定されており、青森のねぶた祭り、仙台の七夕まつりと並んで東北三大祭りの1つとされる。
竿燈は長さ12m、重さ50kg、竿に46個の提灯が吊るされます。これ絶妙なバランスで、手のひら、額、肩、腰などに移しかえて技を競います。
