The Statue of Eternal Love - Ali & Nino stands proudly in Batumi, Georgia, telling a poignant tale of love against all odds. The sculpture, named ‘Man and Woman,’ captures the essence of a Muslim boy and a Christian girl whose love is challenged by war and cultural contrasts. This narrative finds its roots in the novel ‘Ali and Nino,’ unfolding in Baku from 1918 to 1920. Despite their diverse backgrounds, Ali and Nino’s bond is tested by wartime separation, culminating in Ali’s tragic demise, which shatters Nino’s heart. The sculpture pays homage to their enduring love.
Designed by sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze, ‘Man and Woman’ stands as a captivating metal artwork on a mobile platform. At dusk, the figures engage in a slow, poignant dance, briefly uniting before passing through each other. Weighing 7 tonnes and towering at 8 meters, the sculpture’s graceful movement takes approximately 10 minutes, orchestrated by computers and enhanced by vibrant lights. As the motion ceases, the figures stand back-to-back, serving as a haunting symbol of Ali and Nino’s heart-wrenching separation.
