If you happen to be in Hawaii when they are having one of their many events I encourage you not to miss it. Bring a friend, family, all are welcome. Do not miss it. *Surf or water experience not necessary to volunteer. It’s all about community coming together to support and empower community members with disabilities through accessible beach and water programs. I got to assist a fellow named Stanley, a marine corps vet who is now blind, catch his first wave. Such a deep honor to share someone’s first wave. His epic endless smile and his courage to trust two strangers to take him out into the ocean and keep him safe. I’ll never forget it. I was teamed up to assist Gloria, a 95 year young woman who just wanted to charge and catch a couple waves. We helped her catch 5 waves and she laughed with glee the entire time.
