What words are adequate to describe the spirit and the enormous legacy of Marianna Vardinoyannis? She was a visionary, a humanitarian, a role model. Her selfless generosity and philanthropic work were an inspiration to us all. With her strongest weapon being her humanity, her heart and her humility, she managed to move mountains. A mother for all, a patron of all the children of the world, she taught us through her actions about love, devotion and hope. She leaves behind her philanthropic work, which is her selfless contribution to the world and our country. Our paths crossed for the first time when she approached me for the celebration of 30 years of ELPIDA. Our first meeting was at the hospital and I felt her unwavering devotion and love for the children. The show at the Temple of Poseidon aimed to send a message of hope and humanity from Greece to the world. It would never have been possible without her will and determination. When everyone thought it was impossible, she was the one who believed and never gave up. Marianna entered my life like a compass and changed the lens through which I view the world. I consider myself blessed for the wisdom she shared with me. Just before the show in Sounio, it was pouring rain and everyone thought it was going to be cancelled, she called me and said everything was going to be ok. I asked her, "How are you so sure?" She replied, "I just talked to God." She is now under His protection and will live forever in the hearts of all the children and families she helped, a guiding light to her loving family who she adored and a beacon of light to all of us who were lucky enough to know her.
