It was a large-scale, new construction project and we knew making the space feel intimate and residential would be an exciting challenge. In collaboration with Handel Architects, we transformed the 600,000 sq ft space into the quintessential Austin Proper hotel. We aimed to evoke a sense of warmth and interpret historic architectural details that are authentic to the city. This resulted in designing a large sculptural staircase at the entry that has a residential vibe and showcases contemporary and vintage ceramics by local artists.
