The Yurman Family Crystalline Pass is a dazzling 19-foot recreation of a quartz crystal mineral vein found in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas.
The formation of this crystal began in the early Paleozoic Era, about 485 million years ago. Over time, marine sediment rose out of the ocean, and silica from those rocks was eventually transported inland, becoming the quartz crystals we see today.
This stunning installation links the Museum’s new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation with the Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals, where visitors can learn more about the incredible diversity of the mineral world.
