For 150 years - and as recently as 1969 - the US government implemented a policy of Native American erasure. Under the premise of “cultural assimilation”, 100,000+ children were taken from their families, stripped of their culture, and often beaten and sexually abused. The Federal government now admits to these crimes, but the damage to Native communities is still being felt today. @IllumiNative’s #AmericanGenocidePodcast examines this history and the ways that generational trauma has fractured one of the many tribal communities who have inherited this dark legacy.
