Printed on 3oz cotton poplin at our partner mill in Como, Italy, Aloha Quilt’s story begins with an actual quilt, made by hand and worn from years of use. . In late 2021, a GV team member stumbled across a wonderful hand-stitched quilt made of various scraps of Hawaiian shirt fabrics. We recognized some of the fabrics from highly sought after vintage Hawaiian shirts, but many were new to us. And while the quilt was clearly made by someone who could use a bit more practice, the imperfections gave it a uniquely charming character. . A few photographs and fabric tests later, we landed on a to-scale reproduction print of the original Aloha quilt, flaws and all. And because the quilt was reproduced at its original scale, printed stitching sits alongside the shirt’s actual stitching and fabric patches appear in different placements, ultimately making each shirt completely unique. . With stripes and plaids, and many of our prints, we pattern match to create a seamless garment inside and out. Aloha Quilt is decidedly different.
