#CyTwombly was born #onthisday in 1928 in Lexington, Virginia. In the summer of 1977, Twombly began working on a "painting in ten parts" based on Alexander Pope's translation of “The Iliad” by Homer. Completed in 1978 and collectively titled “Fifty Days at Iliam,” this masterpiece evokes incidents from Homer's epic poem in Twombly's characteristic combination of words and images and is an unmissable artist room at the museum.
