‘Shimenawa’ are sacred ropes made of rice straw.🌾They’re hung in front of Shinto shrines to welcome the deity of the new year, who protects and provides good fortune. A huge eight-meter-long ‘shimenawa’ which hangs at Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is made by the residents of Miyama, north of the city.⛩️
