For over a decade my most important and essential partner in crime is Sunnye @swimcyclerundog A gifted writer, conscientious editor, enthusiastic storyteller and talented podcaster in her own right, she is my sounding board and litmus test, my travel companion, and confidant. In the field she has swum with sharks and jellyfish, trekked across Andean peaks, patiently waited for hours in the dark for pangolins to emerge from their burrows and followed mobs of meerkats through the Kalahari desert. She also endured voyages on barely seaworthy boats, suffered from altitude sickness, was sneezed on by a baby gray whale (she assures me that it is not as cute as it sounds ) and had to defecated in a bucket in a van in Iceland waiting for puffins to return from foraging at sea. In service of important conservation stories she has conducted interviews, recorded audio and video, kept detailed diaries, held lights and lugged heavy backpacks across difficult terrain. Without her, there would also have been no Hugo, Blue, and Luna, which bring so much furry canine joy into our life. Our mountain hideaway that heals and replenishes me after long and taxing assignments would also not exist without her creativity, care, and sacrifice. She makes life more beautiful and enjoyable in every way imaginable and I would not be where I am professionally and personally without her.
