thephotosocietyさんのインスタグラム写真 - (thephotosocietyInstagram)「Photos by @robertdashphotography // CAMAS LILY ANTHER and POLLEN. In my food and climate work, I look for a mix of remarkable textures and patterns along with fascinating climate stories. And so it is with camas lily, a significant feature of Pacific Northwest meadows starting each April. These flowers grow from an edible bulb which has played an important role for Native peoples over millennia up through the present. Camas often grows in expansive meadows, maintained with prescribed burning to keep trees from overwhelming the flowers. This practice maintains diverse meadow plants, pollinators, predators and this essential source of starch for Native diets. It seems counterintuitive, but planned burning improves biodiversity and helps build soil, just as it helps reduce deadwood (which prevents dangerously hot fires). Native peoples perfected these practices long ago. Seen here: Camas anther with pollen, 2.Camas pollen closeup, 3400x, 3.Texture of Camas sepal, with stomata, 4.The prize: Camas bulb, 5. Camas lily with yellow pollen.
