I visited my late grandmother’s home in Tokyo and peered inside the kimono dresser to find her incredibly beautiful kimonos, obi’s and trims and the layers of under robes used when wearing a kimono.

The obi covers the waist of the kimono and is the object of most ornament when wearing a kimono. This one, made with a 100% silk brocade, has intricate patterns and motifs and a seemingly infinite number of colors, making the fabric incredibly thick. The workmanship is a reflection of the careful consideration made to every thread that the weaver places on the shuttle loom.

It is an inspiration to connect with my ancestral Japanese heritage looking at past traditions and concepts that are incredibly modern and moving to the future.

A new apparel development coming soon.
