隙間 @sukima_gallery は、水谷太郎による「淼／びょう」を開催します。
水谷は1975年東京都生まれ。東京工芸大学芸術学部写真学科卒業後、ファッション、カルチャーの誌面上で実験的な写真表現を追求、以後、ファッションブランドのキャンペーンやアーティストポートレイト、音楽、コマーシャルのフィールドを中心に、写真、そして映像表現を展開しています。また、コミッションワークと並行、あるいは間接的な関係から生み出される、写真家自身の作品も継続的に発表しています。
本展「淼／びょう」では、2022年冬のドイツ・ベルリンで撮影された未発表の新作を発表します。
一見、印象派の絵画のようにも見える水面のモチーフは、写真家の目─レンズが運河に映る歪んだ波の反射を、サイケデリックなイメージとしてすくい上げたものです。水谷は、撮影した画面の反転という最小限の操作によって、具象と抽象、意識と無意識、現実と虚構の間を提示します。
メディア＝媒介としての写真は、ある具体的な対象を写すとともに、それではないなにか／どこかへの変換可能性を孕んでいます。水谷は、写真が持つイメージのニ相性を、曖昧で不定形な画面を通して差し出そうとしているのかもしれません。

隙間 presents 「淼／びょう」 by Taro Mizutani.
Mizutani was born in Tokyo in 1975. After graduating from the Department of Photography at Tokyo Polytechnic University, he pursued experimental photographic expression in fashion and culture magazines, and has since developed his photographic and visual expression mainly in the fields of fashion brand campaigns, artist portraits, music and commercials. The photographer's own work, produced in parallel or in indirect relation to his commission work, is also continuously exhibited.
In this exhibition, 「淼／びょう」, the artist presents previously unpublished new work photographed in Berlin, Germany, in the winter of 2022.
The motif of the water’s surface, which at first glance looks like an impressionist painting, is a psychedelic image scooped out by the photographer's eye (the lens) of the distorted wave reflections on the canal. Mizutani's minimal manipulation of the photographed image - inverting it - presents a space between the concrete and the abstract, the conscious and the unconscious, the real and the fictional.
Photography, as a medium, not only captures a real object, but also holds the potential to be transformed into something or somewhere else. Mizutani may be attempting to explore the duality / dichotomy of the photographic image through this series of ambiguous and amorphous images.
