In 2007 I worked on a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック on Biomimetics, the inspiration of nature on desgin. I was allowed access to the #Smithsonian museum and the NASA collection. #AlanShepard Apollo 14 suit was the one we decided to photograph. The the US Military & NASA were early proponents of Velcro. Shepard was one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts and the commander of #Apollo14. He was the fifth & the oldest Man to walk on the moon. Velcro was inspired by a scientist who was trying to remove cockleburs from his dogs fur and was impressed by its effectiveness.
