I do it with my kids at home and I specially love the synchro ones with the team because I know a very small amount of people in the world can do it. 😛 This year I create one every Friday and we call it The Friday Challenge. Today’s one is a fantasy I always had: flying over the flags, backwards and of course not using the bottom of the pool. They had only one chance, as I wanted them to practice that when it’s time, you only have one shot (and also less chances to break the flags…) they tried on the side until they figured out and they felt ready. And… mission accomplished! Every Friday the challenge is different, it might look useless but I think it’s good for many reasons: 1️⃣ I tell them the final vision I have which is always a difficult one (sometimes I don’t even know if they can make it) and they have to solve it without any coaches help or tip. Inspired by @michaelgervais when he explains why to do difficult things increases confidence. That’s one of my goals for the team: increase confidence but most importantly independent from the coaches to create real self-confidence. 2️⃣ It’s a challenge that requires team work. Separated they wouldn’t be able to achieve it, so they need to find the way to cooperate in the most efficient way. 3️⃣ They have limited time to do it and I think it makes them improve problem solving with speed. Usually in competition you only have one chance and you don’t have time to stop and think so it’s good to be ready for anything. 4️⃣ Team bonding and leadership: every time they learn how to recognize the strenghts of each one and I love that they find their own role in every different situation. 5️⃣ One of the most important parts: It’s good for the soul to refresh our minds once a week and have fun using our sport to enjoy it in other ways Do you want us to post more challenges we did??
