Flanked by 26 major glaciers amd 36 sq miles of permanent snowfields, Washington's giant #stratovolcano is one of the largest and most dangerous volcanoes in the US, it last erupted in 1894. Designated a 'decade volcano' by the IAVCEI Sub-Commission (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior) Rainier erupted over a dozen times in the last 2,600 years, with the largest eruption 2,200 years ago. #iphoneonly
