"Universal" background check bills, including the House-passed "Bipartisan Background Checks" Act, would extend those checks to nearly all gun sales, except to close family members.) 5) High-capacity magazine and semi-automatic assault weapon bans ( These proposals are aimed at limiting or blocking sales of firearms and ammunition magazines that are capable of killing large numbers of people quickly.) 6) Mandatory buy-back of semi-automatic assault weapons. What can you do? • Be informed. • Follow the money of lobbyists that own/ contribute to law maker’s campaigns. • VOTE: vote for Governors and Senators who represent the will of the people not the NRA. • Remember statistics: Gun sales climb after incidents like this because guns erroneous symbolize safety to owners. The reality is, less than 1% of gun owners use their guns in defense of gun violence. Additionally, most gun owners fall victim to their own gun. Either by accident or suicide.
