A short story on this image, and what I look for when shooting on the street: The scene - I noticed this elderly gentleman sitting reading his paper facing the sea...a young man next to him earphones on lost within his phone. Struck by the juxtaposition of the two generations consuming their information differently on the same bench, I composed my frame. A Lady In Red approached, both generations of "watchers" decided to look up simultaneously and watch her stroll by. This is where the compose and wait technique pays off... The pieces of the puzzle are all laid out, it's my job as the storyteller to put them together for the viewer, so without a caption - can the story can still be told? Can the frame speak for itself? Colour for me is a big part of that story. Shooting on film, while more difficult to "quickly review" images creates creative guardrails that allow for the photographer to work within. @cinestillfilm 50D is one of those that compliment my love of bright blues/deep reds...it pairs nicely with a day walking around Cannes. This is where compose and wait comes in, I had his red pants on one side, just needed something to connect it to. The woman in the dress approached...gave me colour connection for the viewers eye to go back and forth between the two sides of the frame. Colour...composition...patience, and a bit of luck.
