After the Rain—the most amazing thunderstorms roll across the Serengeti plains, in northern Tanzania. Clouds build to the point they are so swollen, when they finally bust loose, a flood hails down, not mere rain. The animals hunker down, with no protection, and wait for it to pass. Finally the sun bursts through the passing clouds, the animals seem joyous—young wildebeest run and leap, zebras prance and chase. But it's also a time for hyenas—in the confusion of the storm, and the ruckus of the regrouping herds, the predators emerge from dens and prowl for opportunity. They are relentless, running this young Thomsons gazelle to exhaustion—to death. The rains that end the life of the young tommy, also transform the overgrazed ground to fresh green sprouts, sustaining thousands of plains animals.
