When I joined, I had no idea that 1/3 of the nation's homeless children are here in California. They are homeless, sleeping in a place not meant for habitation. Hearing this hurt my heart. I had to learn more about this crisis here in our community. I found out that about 12 percent of homeless children are not enrolled in school, and 45 percent do not regularly attend school. Can you imagine your kids not socializing, learning, growing? I also became aware that as many as 75% of these kids will drop out of school. That is a travesty. Today, StandUp for Kids is working with 19 other non-profits in Orange County in a 24-hour campaign to #HelpThemHome and eradicate homelessness.
