Story time! That’s AWOOGA 10 YEARS OLD today; my first unquestionably 100% EDM banger. I remember telling Annie Mac on Radio 1 I made it to get rid of anyone who liked my first 2 albums hahaha - a brutal take and I probably wouldn’t put it like that now, but in any case it certainly did the job. This was me making a tune with the sole purpose of getting the clap loud as possible in the mix without sacrificing the kick level; resulted in a mix that is practically unlistenable on headphones, but sounded great on a big system.
I stole the kick from an Afrojack tune, then a few years later he asked me for the Awooga kick. Said it was massive. I sent him it back of course. Slightly degraded version of his original kick. I live for shit like that. Come to think of it maybe he knew and he was taking the piss. It didn’t feel like he was taking the piss. I just remembered when an older big dance producer from the 90s told me he wanted to collab and he sent over an idea where he lifted my entire drum loop from Bounce and did a half arsed noodley shite riff idea over it. I said ‘dunno if it’s for me tbh’ and he replied ‘that’s what you sound like mate so I don’t really understand what you don’t like about it, they’re your fucking drums anyway’ and he never spoke to me again. Hahahhahaha great great fucking times.
