We met at Port Macquarie High School in grade 8 and now (almost 26 years later!) the book is dedicated to her two daughters—my nieces—Naya and Anaïs. Trying to capture Melanie’s true energy and sparkle as a ‘character’ on the page while writing the book was a task I wasn’t sure if I was going to succeed at. To stand near her is to truly be standing near effervescent stardust, she is magical and compassionate and fierce and kind and hilarious and smart and strong and vulnerable and just the best type of soul.
