Yes, these are soda cans — but they’re also history! Egyptian graphic designer Ghada Wali (@ghada_wali) updated the same-old soft drink cans in a way that honored her Egyptian heritage. These particular cans track the evolution of visual graphics in Egypt, showcasing 4 distinct eras. From left to right, the art styles of Ancient Egypt (3100 BCE), Rural Egypt (1880s), Modern Egypt (1940s) and Egypt today are represented. "Design plays a crucial role in highlighting the visual identity of any product," she wrote in a recent piece that appears exclusively on TEDinArabic. "And it has the power to unveil and re-introduce the culture and identity of any country." This project is just one of many created by Wali that aims to celebrate the Arabic language and preserve Arab identity. To see more of her delightful designs and learn about her mission to bring a "visual revolution" to Egypt and the Middle East, visit the link in our bio.
