Episode 5 Kinabalu

僕の経験してきたクライミングトリップの中で最も印象的だったのは、間違いなく2015年に訪れたマレーシアのキナバル山だ。標高4000m弱の山は3500mあたりからほとんど植物が消え、花崗岩の岩盤が現れる。そこからキノコのような奇岩があちこちに聳えている。ヨセミテのような岩壁というより小川山にある岩峰に似ているような気もするが、規模が違う。巨大な岩峰がユニークにうねっていたりオーバーハングしていたり、多彩なのだ。その中で最も象徴的な岩峰がドンキーイヤーズと呼ばれるロバの耳のような岩峰。だがその片耳が、僕たちの遠征の直後の大地震で崩壊してしまう。そこにあった幻のTinipi 5.15a/9a+(Bolted by @平山ユージ )の完登は、初登の @ダニエル・ウッズ と僕の心の中にしか生きることができなかった。だがあの山には無限のクライミングの可能性が秘められている。またいつの日か、訪れたい。

The most impressive climbing trip in my life is definitely Mt.Kinabalu in Malaysia which I had in 2015. Most of the plants disappears around 3500m and granite bedrock comes out. Strange rocks like mushrooms are towering here and there. It is not like the wall of Yosemite but more like towers of Mt. Ogawa in Japan, but much bigger. Those unique towers are waviness and overhanging. The most iconic tower is called donkey ears. But right after our climbing trip, one side of Donkey ears fell down by huge earthquake. Sending experience of the phantom route which existed on that peak Tinipi 5.15a/9a+(bolted by @平山ユージ is living only in @ダニエル・ウッズ and my heart. But more potential of climbing is hidden in that mountain. Love to go back someday.
