In 1943, Thomas was charged with the task of first creating a blue baby-like condition, and then correcting the condition. nearly two years of laboratory work. Vivien Thomas finally solved the blue like baby condition. Without any education past high school, Thomas rose above poverty and racism to become a cardiac surgery pioneer and a teacher.
